Values, controversies, and implications of economic research on automation of labour and inequality

The project relies on analytical and interpretative approaches from philosophy of science to scrutinize what we can and cannot know about the relationship between automation of labour and inequality based on research produced in modern economics. There is no consensus in economics yet whether automation of labour leads to the increase in equality. The project will analyse whether the disagreements about the nature of the relationship between automation of labour and inequality, and their policy implications, are related mostly to the social and political values embedded in economic research.
